Black Panther

Image
First off, don't read this if you intend on seeing Black Panther but have not yet gone! I went to see the movie Black Panther this weekend. I'm not really a big "superhero" movie person buy my son talked me into it and I really enjoyed it. A few things spoke to me in the movie but one thing really, really jumped out to me that I wanted to share with you. There was a point in the movie when King T'Challa appears dead and his long-lost cousin with a bitter and angry heart takes over the throne. The King's ex-girlfriend, Nakia, wants to dethrone the cousin and "save" Wakanda from his evil intentions. General Okoye who very much loved King T'Challa cannot help her. When Nakia and Okoye talk about these plans Okoye says something that really stuck with me. As much as it broke her heart to do so, as much as she loved King T'Challa, she told Nakia "my loyalty lies with the throne and it is the throne that I must defend." I began to p...

Who is Proverbs 31 Really For?

Image
I always thought Proverbs 31 was about and directed to the woman but as I read it today I realized it's a guide to the man and what they should seek in a woman and what they should stay away from in a woman! Take a read from that perspective. This is my paraphrasing of the Passion translation. Proverbs 31 Listen my dear son, the son of my womb, you are the answer to my prayers and you are my son. So, keep yourself sexually pure and away from the alluring but deceptive woman. Please don't waste the strength of your anointing on someone who could ruin it. You will live to regret it. For you are a king! It is never good for a king to get drunk because when they drink they forget justice and they ignore the rights of those in need, those who would depend on their leadership. Be a king who fights for those who cannot defend themselves. As a king who should you look for as a bride, as your queen? This would be a wife to treasure , one of strength, great courage, full of wisdom an...

Don't be a Fool

Proverbs 23 When you've been invited to a dinner with an important leader what do you do? You consider your manners and you keep in mind the whole time you were at dinner who you are with. But I want you to be careful to curb your appetite and catch yourself before you fall into the trap of just wanting everything you see. Don't crave what's put before you at the table because it might have a trap to it. Don't compare yourself to others but instead evaluate your ambitions before the eyes of God! Be careful to know who you are dining with if it is a stingy man keep that in mind and don't eat too much or he will judge you. He will tell you "no really go ahead have whatever you want I'm treating" but in his heart he resents it and then you'll be sorry you even ate anything at all. When you are giving advice remember a rebellious fool will despise it don't even waste your time as a matter fact save your breath! Don't attempt to take anything ...

Two Questions God is Asking

Image
God is really calling us to move when He is moving in this season without hesitation! He is saying "I will challenge you in this season and give you no rest without obedience." Don't look smaller than God wants you to see. Two questions I heard Him speak... When I say move, will you remove all hesitation and do what I ask? Will you pull out of that place called comfortable because what I am calling you to in this season IS uncomfortable? God is putting a demand on those who can answer "yes" to the two questions above to not linger once God has spoken to move, He will push you to move with Him but He cannot pull you against your fleshly will. Don't miss God's timing for you through hesitation and your desires of the flesh or even people pleasing (simply not wanting to hurt or disappoint someone.) WE WILL MISS OUT IF WE LINGER IN THIS SEASON! Maybe God is requiring you to move to a new place but your heart lingers where you are because of rela...

2018: The Year God is Asking "Will you move with Me?"

In 2017 God said all year long "watch me move" and now heading into 2018 He is saying "you have watched me move all year long NOW it is time to move with me." #LET'S GO! We can't be a people pleaser (even to ourselves) and be obedient to the difficult things God asks/requires of us. I can't think of one biblical example of obedience stepping and faith building that did not come at a hefty but rewarding price to those involved. There will always be someone unhappy with your obedience, ALWAYS! You just have to be sure the direction your heading in is the direction God is leading you then be sure to step with Him in the moment. We can't move ahead (something we've all done) and we can't linger behind (something we've all done.) I think because we've heard about Abraham's faith journey so much we have become numb to the actual level of requirement God placed on Abraham and the level of difficulty and stretching it took from ...

Does Love Really Never Fail?

Image
We read in 1st Corinthians 13:8 that “love never fails” yet we see relationships fail, sever, and become distant all around us. We thought  there was love in the relationship? T he scripture says "love never fails"? So, what happened? The true love of Jesus Christ himself was not functioning in the relationship or it would not have failed. The law of love that Jesus himself showed was that He was willing to go to the cross and die on our behalf—while we were yet sinners as Romans 5:8 tells us this truth that He loved us in our flaws--this, this is true love. This was one of my favorite scriptures when I first started walking in the things of the Lord. To grasp that while we weren't even thinking of the Lord he was thinking of us to the point of death so we could have freedom to ascend to the throne of God in purity of fellowship to the place of restoration as Adam and Eve in fellowship directly with God, walking in the cool of the morning with nothing hidden, no shame, no...

Nothing is Without Purpose

Image
Nothing God asks of us is without purpose. No matter the path, no matter the sacrifice, no matter the risks involved to us personally a heart that responds with "NEVERTHELESS" is the heart God is looking for. Proverbs 19:21 tells us that many are the plans in a man's heart but nevertheless it is the counsel of the Lord that stands, the purposes of the Lord that will stand. I want to encourage you this morning to remain yielded to the purposes God is calling you to, remain yielded with a resounding "nevertheless" coming from your heart and your mind and your actions. "Nevertheless" yields a blessing, "nevertheless" yields a harvest for the Kingdom of God, there are souls waiting on your "nevertheless." I was quickened in prayer this morning to when the young girl Mary was being told by the angel Gabriel that there was a great purpose God was calling her to and requiring of her. She didn't understand how anything Gabriel w...
