Black Panther
First off, don't read this if you intend on seeing Black Panther but have not yet gone!
I went to see the movie Black Panther this weekend. I'm not really a big "superhero" movie person buy my son talked me into it and I really enjoyed it. A few things spoke to me in the movie but one thing really, really jumped out to me that I wanted to share with you.
There was a point in the movie when King T'Challa appears dead and his long-lost cousin with a bitter and angry heart takes over the throne. The King's ex-girlfriend, Nakia, wants to dethrone the cousin and "save" Wakanda from his evil intentions. General Okoye who very much loved King T'Challa cannot help her. When Nakia and Okoye talk about these plans Okoye says something that really stuck with me. As much as it broke her heart to do so, as much as she loved King T'Challa, she told Nakia "my loyalty lies with the throne and it is the throne that I must defend."
I began to ponder this within the context of our walk with the Lord. Does our loyalty lie with the throne? Does our loyalty lie in doing whatever is required of us regardless of how much it may break our heart? OR is our loyalty in man?
Have we been guilty of dropping a relationship because there was conflict between two others? Did God tell us to do that or did we just pick sides? Has our loyalty been with man or with God and His Kingdom, His THRONE?
If our loyalty is with the throne then there should not be a deterioration of so many relationships when paths and courses change but there should be a connecting of and extending of nets to further reach the lost for the Kingdom of God and the King of Kings. BUT, I don't see that, I see loyalty more so to people and agendas even ministries than to the throne of God and I think we've missed out on a lot of "branching out" and "reaching out" as a result of this "loyalty" issue.
Jesus warned us if we weren't willing to leave anything and everything for Him (the throne) then we weren't true disciples. There is a big cost to being completely sold out to the throne and no other and we must check our hearts on a regular basis and be sure of whose throne it is we are actually serving.
