Who is Proverbs 31 Really For?
I always thought Proverbs 31 was about and directed to the woman but as I read it today I realized it's a guide to the man and what they should seek in a woman and what they should stay away from in a woman! Take a read from that perspective. This is my paraphrasing of the Passion translation.
Proverbs 31
Listen my dear son, the son of my womb, you are the answer to my prayers and you are my son. So, keep yourself sexually pure and away from the alluring but deceptive woman. Please don't waste the strength of your anointing on someone who could ruin it. You will live to regret it. For you are a king! It is never good for a king to get drunk because when they drink they forget justice and they ignore the rights of those in need, those who would depend on their leadership. Be a king who fights for those who cannot defend themselves. As a king who should you look for as a bride, as your queen? This would be a wife to treasure , one of strength, great courage, full of wisdom and know she has paid a price for that wisdom. A wife that's you can trust your heart with. All through her life she brings to you things that are good and not evil, she continually searches out that which is pure and righteous. She pours her heart into whatever she puts her hand to. She hands out revelation truth to others. Even in her night season she arises and sets food on the table for others to eat of, always feeding others spiritually and physically. She puts everything into everything she does. She understands there is more and she understands her purpose cannot be extinguished by anyone else. She reaches out and grabs those behind her and brings them along. She is not afraid of difficulties because she know she has covered her household in righteousness and grace through prayer. Her heart is reflected in her husband and the respect and honor he receives. Boldness, confidence, strength swirl about her. She pours out wisdom and kindness and instruction from her mouth and she is always watching over her household making sure all the needs are met. Her sons and her daughters will most assuredly arise and call her blessed and her husband will honor her with his words. Remember this my sons as you rise up to be kings that charm can be misleading, beauty quickly fades but a woman as described above will empower you and you both will be admired, respected and honored at every turn.
