The Spirit Knows What We Don’t Know

Sometimes we just need to stop and pray. Our minds are racing, our “fix it” gears are in motion even though there is no “fix it” answer. When we don’t stop and pray (or we pray half-heartedly) we begin to get discouraged and frustrated when we don’t see movement. If we can contend in prayer we will build up our inner man. How you ask? As we are led in prayer beginning with a heart of thanksgiving we find ourselves edified and encouraged even (maybe even especially) if nothing in our outside circumstances have changed. I love that sometimes we just don’t know how to pray and that’s ok even though it feels like a difficult spot to be in. We want God’s will but we also want our desires. I have been in that place more often than I care to be recently. I want my desires but I also want God’s will. Just last week I decided I have put my petitions (my desires) before the Lord a lot recently. Now, in order to not pray against the will of God, I have begun to pray daily in the Spirit when I am unctioned to pray! It has helped calm my inner man for sure and has given me a peace I have not had in a while (just being transparent here.) Like Romans 8:26 tells us “So the Holy Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groaning too deep for utterance.” This gives me the peace that overrides all understanding.

It goes on to say in vs. 27 of Romans 8 “and He who searches the hearts of men knows what is in the mind of the Holy Spirit [what His intent is] because the Spirit intercedes and pleads [before God] in behalf of the saints and according to and in harmony with God’s will.” I’m screaming “THIS WILL PREACH” right here! You might want to get up and take a lap around your kitchen for a minute! What this is saying to us is that Holy Spirit brings our heart’s desires to God and lines them up with God’s will before God at the throne! So, what this is telling us is that when we pray by the Spirit we are never praying out of the will of God because the Holy Spirit brings our desires to God and hearing the heart of God on the matter petitions God in line with His will. That’s intense and so reassuring!

As a matter of fact, speaking of reassuring, Romans 8:28 tells us this regarding reassurance. “We are assured and know that [God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose.” We mine as well end this off with Romans 8:31 which tells us “What then shall we say to [all] this? If God is for us who [can be] against us? [Who can be our foe, if God is on our side?]”

God knows and He reveals to the Holy Spirit...so, when we pray in the Spirit we cannot miss the will of God. Well I’m ready to take on the world now, how about everybody else?
