The Power of Love
I believe it is important to “walk in love,” it is an attribute of God’s. I believe it is important to love all people regardless of differences in lifestyle and/or opinions we may have, I believe that is how God himself is. I also believe it is important to speak the truth out of that same place of love. To me the deepest form of love that exists is to be willing to boldly speak truth to someone when they are being misguided, taking a wrong turn or deceived by false truths.
Truth is a deep form of love. I’m not going to “nag” you. You are entitled to your own truth but there is only “the truth” that brings in real freedom from life’s struggles that knock on all our doors. I will not allow someone’s blood to be on my hands because I tried to respond to a person by the world’s definition of love and not Jesus’ example of love. (Ezekiel 3:17-19 tells us that as God makes us a watchman and asks us to give warning then we are to give warning, if we are not willing to give that warning that man’s blood will be on our hands BUT if we speak out the warning and it is not received the blood is not on our hands.)
Jesus walked in great love and also great truth. Read about his life and walk here on earth, he loved deeply and from that deep place he spoke truth regardless of the reception he would receive from the hearer. He spoke truth to a random woman at a well and also to his closest twelve!
We are told in 1 Corinthians 13 that three will remain and the greatest is love and love sometimes is the hardest place to function from. Any parent knows this! We must love so deeply that we cannot leave others in a false truth that will cost them eternity and not speak up. If this is perceived as judgment or even hatred for that I am truly sorry but it comes from a heart of deep concern and compassion to see you walking in “the truth” and not just “your truth.” There is not a “your truth” there is “the truth” and it is found in the Bible. “Then you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” (John 8:32) It is truth and love working together that will lead the lost to a place of being found. This is why “love never fails” (also in 1 Corinthians 13) because love is willing to risk all for truth, salvation, and freedom in another’s life.
We have been hearing a lot about love in recent months but please don’t miss the greatest mentor of all in Jesus who walked in such a powerful love that not only did he lay down his life for us but he preached a cry of “repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand.” (Matthew 4:17) Jesus himself was consistently saying (paraphrasing to today’s language) “turn from your sin, change your thinking, hate the sin that used to beset you, turn to me instead, rely on me instead of other things, make an abrupt decision to do an about face away from sin and into me., I am reachable, you can reach out and hold onto me now, just turn from your sinful vice and grasp onto me.”
This is the truth in love that all need to hear and know and after we’ve spoken truth in love we contend in prayer (another deep form of love) for scales to come off of eyes and ears to be unplugged. We pray for truth to be seen and heard and true freedom to be received while reaching for the Kingdom of God that is at hand for all of us!
